I’ve been captivated by zines since I was very young; the community aspect, the low-fi quality, the artwork, paper, and the feel as you read through it. I had the idea to make a zine several months ago, and I was able to create that zine as part of the Patients Have Power campaign for Clara Health.

First, the project needed creative content from patients to fill up the magazine. There were so many contributions, the project expanded from 12 pages to 16 pages. These contributions allowed the project to become a fully fledged magazine instead of a smaller zine - it was incredible!

The project and campaign planned for direct patient distribution and in Boston area hospital waiting rooms. Post-distribution, the magazine contributed to a 15.5% increase in site traffic in addition to user referrals and Twitter engagement.

We distributed to the following hospitals: MGH, Shriners Hospital for Children, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston Medical Center, Boston Children's hospital, Dana-Farber, Brigham and Women's, Beth Israel, Tufts Medical Center, VA Medical Center, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, and more.
